Hacks to Get Faster Internet Connectivity

As we all work from home more often, it’s important to have high-speed internet connectivity at all times. The good news, of course, is that there are certain things you can do to increase the quality of your Wi-Fi, without having to pay anything extra. Here are our top tips to get faster internet.

Move Your Router

Things like cupboards, walls, and bookshelves can obstruct Wi-Fi signals. That’s why it’s a good idea to physically move the router to a different place. The perfect spot, of course, will depend on how your home is designed and what furniture you have, but try not to place your router in a corner, inside your drawer, or under a cupboard. The more prominent and central it is, the better you can access faster speeds.

Use an Ethernet Cable

We sometimes forget that wires still exist – so you don’t always have to use your Wi-Fi. In fact, a wired internet connection is usually preferred to a wireless one, simply because the former is more steady and faster. The downside to a wired connection is that you can’t really move around with your device. Still, for tasks for which you require super-fast internet connectivity, it’s worth using an ethernet cable.

Change the Band

Wi-Fi signals are divided into different channels or bands. Your router uses a certain channel to communicate with all the devices in your home. Now, if your neighbors happen to use the same Wi-Fi channel, you may experience a very congested network. In this case, switching to a different channel or band could solve the problem for you. However, keep in mind that every single router will handle this slightly differently. Look up the instructions online or check the documentation if you are not sure about how to do this.

Buy a New Router

Routers can vary a lot in terms of price and functionality, so getting the right router can make a substantial difference. For instance, if you live in a large home, getting a router with “repeaters” that help broadcast Wi-Fi signals to the furthest reaches of your home could really help.
